Board Member Spotlight
John Boelling (Board Member-at-Large)
John Boelling plants a tree in Portland.
John Boelling grew up in the Pacific Northwest, hailing from Astoria, Oregon. He and his wife and daughter have been living in Portland’s NE Cully Neighborhood since 2006 and love biking, hiking and camping. John, a professional singer, choral director, and voice teacher, believes that the arts play a vital role in the well-being of society through personal and cultural expression, community bonding, and as a driver of social change.
John has a deep interest in ecology, animal rights, vegan cooking and urban gardening and farming. He previously ran his own vegan bicycle delivery service, and currently works part time at Next Level Veggie Grill on Hawthorne. When time allows, John volunteers with the Oregon Humane Society’s foster program.
John is thrilled to be a part of the STREAM~N Network and to support its mission to engage, educate, and empower youth to connect with nature through meaningful community action, while building skills that will provide a tremendous foundation for their lives and careers.
Kate Stinson, JD (Board Member-at-Large)
Kate Stinson connects with a salmonberry plant.
Growing up on the Oregon Coast as the oldest of six, Kate is drawn to wild places and strong communities. Her diverse background spans prosecuting poachers in the Gorge, guiding tidepool tours, and managing complex non-profit programs. Now a trial attorney and wellness center manager, Kate is known for bringing “the compass” to her work—providing clear direction and fierce advocacy alongside a deep commitment to holistic health.
Whether she’s hunting mushrooms, studying why aspen leaves quake, or remembering her days skijoring with her dogs, Kate believes in the restorative power of the outdoors. She is thrilled to bring her systems-savvy approach to STREAM~N, helping youth align with nature to build resilient lives and careers.
Board Member Spotlight
Lana Quackenbush, Board President
Lana and Mathias Quackenbush exploring Nigeria during a family visit in 2025
Lana began her career in caregiving on the campus of UC Santa Cruz, where she studied art and psychology. Her time there also gave her an appreciation for nature that changed the course of her life, eventually leading her to relocate to the Pacific Northwest, where she finds peace by planting her feet in running waters and walking under tall pines.
Lana’s life work has involved exploring how children develop through both nature and nurture, and the role of play in our lives, throughout our lives. She enjoys working with adults as much as children, reminding people that our development never ends. She is a past Board member of the SE Portland Tool library and a Past President of the Board of the Wy’east Unitarian Universalist Congregation.
