We have been grateful for all the commmunity support and the growth of The STREAM~N Network since the first STREAM~N Team formed in Oregon City in June 2025. This year we built on the success of that team to launch more programs in Portland and the Mid-Willamette Valley, centered on Salem. A Gresham team will be starting this fall in partnership with Lutheran Community Services (non-religious) and the City of Gresham, with funding from the East Multnomah Soil & Water Conservation District.
Grants from the City of Oregon City’s Community Enhancement Grant program, the City of Portland Office of Violence Prevention, and the City of Salem have complemented our seed funding from Oregon Youth Corps/Higher Education Coordinating Commission, Oregon Forest Resources Institute (OFRI) and private donations, so that we are able to offer the hard-working youth more signficant stipends and meaningful experiences at many diverse locations.
The STREAM~N Team poses in an area we cleared of ecologically disruptive plants at the new Canyon’s Edge STREAM~N Center in Oregon City. The land was recently donated to The STREAM~N Network and the youth and partners such as the Jane Goodall Institute are helping us create a model sister site of our homebase or our original team, the Environmental Learning Center at Clackamas Community College.
This year we also completed the STREAM~N Team Service-Learning Curriculum with career connections. We are freely sharing it with schools, other non-profits, and anyone else who would like to engage youth in environmental service-learning work. Aligned to the Next Generation Science Standards and Common Core State Standards, it helps integrate place-based education and empower youth to make a differences in their communities while meeting other content standards.
Please let us know if we can help in any way!
STREAM~N Team members learning from Indigenous experts about First Foods in the delicious meal prepared for us in Salem in April, part of the service-learning restoration event at Woodmansee Park. The park has since become the homebase of the new Mid-Willamette Valley STREAM~N Team led by amazing local coordinators Eyan Hackney (shown on the left in the blue/white cap enjoying the tasty three sisters stew with buffalo), who also founded the impactful Castaway WU program at Willamette University, and Kristina Zatarain.
Feeling great after an impactful spring break restoration event at Wilkes Creek Headwaters in Portland.
